We finished up our Energy Unit by making Solar Ovens. Ask your student what role they played, what all the components were used for, and why it was so important to have each piece assembled correctly. We had some amazing class conversations about this. We can't wait to see how our chocolate bar and JUMBO marshmallow turn out.
On our Hot Air Balloon journey we stopped off at Antartica for a quick visit and lesson about the importance of penguin's and their blubber. We got first hand experience, literally, of how important and effective blubber is. The pictures speak for themselves....
Pump it up for Boosterthon!!! So excited this year about helping FTE and a neighboring school all at the same time. When the State of Texas updated the TEKS this year and listed even MORE famous people the students had to learn about, I racked my brain about finding a way to make it fun and ENGAGING! Let's face it, we can teach at students all day long about people, but how do we ensure they absorb something.
Introducing FAKEBOOK. The students have a "facebook" template in powerpoint/keynote and they input all the information they researched at home. They are so engaged in not only the research portion, but accurately representing the information they found into the project. Talk about Project Based Research at it's finest. I can't wait to see the finished project and hear the presentation portion of this, as that's the second component. |
