Creation Station :: Krause + Fromberg
First Graders at FTE participate in a "Creation Station" activity every Friday. We thought it would be fun to invite them into our classroom and participate in this Creation Station with them. We, being the third graders, would teach the first graders how to create the activity all the while making new friends and learning from one another. Out theme was The Lorax. Earth Day is April 22nd, unfortunately third grade will be taking the STAAR test that day. We decided to celebrate early with the reading of The Lorax and an art activity that involved planting grass and creating our own Lorax. Thanks to Mrs. Krause's class for coming out to the cabanas to join us for a fun time!
For this year's Economics Unit, we all became entrepreneurs of our own companies...movie production companies. We went through the entrepreneur cycle and talked about: Design - Production - Marketing - Sales and how finance ties into every part of it. We applied for jobs, had to do a sales pitch to a Venture Capitalist, apply for a copyright, develop a marketing campaign and so much more. In this Project Based Learning unit the students learned collaboration, the true meaning of teamwork, meeting deadlines, and producing something for another audience (aka Kinder Buddies) and the anticipation of their critique; let's be honest, kindergardeners are honest! All in all, it was an amazing experience and below are a few photos from the day our Kinder Buddies saw the trailers we developed for our movies.

Rollercoaster Day
It's a Third Grade thing, Rollercoaster day that is. Force and motion -- momentum -- jumps and curves -- gravity :: it's all in the lingo. Many third graders never forget rollercoaster day, it's something they work so hard for and the feeling of accomplishment they have at the end is worth it. Not to say there isn't frustration, feelings of defeat, and let's face it a lot of effort goes into just working as a group. But the final result, when it finally works, is well worth the work. What a great life lesson and science lesson all in one!
HOLIDAY MADNESS setting in?!?

- edMosphere.net is an AMAZING tool to do a "temperature check" on your class climate
-flipping the classroom...classrooms of the future?? a new wave of thought--

LOTS of reading + taking AR test + meeting your goal
= popsicles and outdoor time with friends
It doesn't get much better than this....Congrats to all the kiddos who met their AR goal the first nine weeks!
Nanny's Here
Thanks to Carter & Hunter, from Mrs. Krause's 1st grade class, and Dakota & MacKenzie, from Mrs. Crain & Mrs. Brookshire's 3rd grade classes, for helping to get Nanny's water stocked and give Nanny her first introduction to FTE students. They were kind and sweet and allowed her space to feel comfortable in her new environment. We will be visiting her once she has some time to adapt to her new home and get used to her new friends (ie. 500+ overly excited elementary students).
